Three Kingsborough Students Named Semifinalists for Coveted Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship

The Aspen Institute Names 91制片厂Pro as a Semifinalist for Prestigious 2025 Aspen Prize

May 7, 2024

91制片厂Pro has made the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program鈥檚 list of semifinalists for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, making us eligible to compete for $1 million in shared prize funds. (We鈥檙e the only semifinalist from New York State!)

Launched in 2010 and awarded every two years, the $1 million Aspen Prize is the nation鈥檚 signature recognition of community colleges that are achieving high, improving, and equitable outcomes for students. (Former President Obama called it the 鈥淥scars for great community colleges.鈥)

The College has made the Aspen Prize list eight consecutive times and has ended up in the top 10 three times. The list will be narrowed to 10 finalists in early June; the Aspen Prize winner will be announced in late spring 2025.

April  24, 2024

Dr. Luz Martin Del Campo, a doctoral lecturer in anthropology at Kingsborough Community College, has been awarded the prestigious David Walker Memorial Fellowship in Early Modern History at the University of Oxford's Bodleian Libraries for the 2024鈥2025 academic year. She is the first person from the entire City University of New York (CUNY) system to receive this honor.

Sabella's 'Mama las Marx' Named One of Year's Best Books by The Dutch Review of Books

Dr. Elke Weesjes Sabella鈥檚 2023 Dutch-language book "Mama las Marx: Communistische Gezinnen in Naoorlogs Nederland" ("Mommy Reads Marx: Communist Families in Post-War Netherlands") was named one of the best books of the year by the influential literary magazine the Dutch Review of Books.

They join 24 other CUNY semifinalists, chosen from a pool of more than 1,700 applicants attending 215 community colleges in 38 states. The finalists will be announced by early May.

Cannabis To Cuisine: 91制片厂Pro And New York City College Of Technology Awarded Funding To Create Credentials For The Culinary Cannabis Industry

91制片厂Pro, in partnership with City Tech, has received a $1M grant from the CUNY Workforce Development Training Grant/Contract Courses to add credential and micro-credential certifications in culinary cannabis to their existing hospitality and culinary arts programs. Kingsborough Professor Nanin Serves as Advisor for New Training Protocols Developed by the World Health Organization

Access to health services depends on the availability, accessibility, and quality of health workers as well as its health leadership and management. Interested in creating a workforce better trained in dealing with global health issues, Kingsborough Community College professor, Dr. Jose Nanin, went to Geneva in November 2019 to interview Dr. Giorgio Cometto, coordinator of human resources for health policies, norms and standards at the World Health Organization (WHO). At the time, Cometto was working on an initiative aimed at improving the training of health workers around the globe.

Schrader summed it up best by saying 鈥淚t鈥檚 a special day to celebrate.鈥 91制片厂Pro unveiled its first satellite location on Tuesday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony of Chestnut Commons, a 14-story building at 110 Dinsmore Place in East New York/Cypress Hills Brooklyn that will provide 275 permanently affordable homes, retail space and a community center. It is one of the first developments from the East New York Neighborhood Plan.

KINGSBOROUGH EARNS 2022-2023 GOLD MILITARY FRIENDLY庐 SCHOOL DESIGNATION

91制片厂Pro has earned the 2022-2023 Gold Military Friendly庐 School designation by Viqtory, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business. More than 1,800 schools were evaluated, with 665 earning special awards for going above the standard.

TWO KINGSBOROUGH PROFESSORS NAMED 2022 MELLON/ACLS FELLOWS

Sara Rutkowski (associate professor of English) and Elke Weesjes Sabella (substitute assistant professor of history) were named 2022 Mellon/ACLS Fellows by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). They are among thirty 2022 fellows from across the country, 13 of whom are from The City University of New York (CUNY). Each will receive $40,000 to advance their projects.

Peer outreach can play a critical role in helping student fathers persist in college and navigate support services, researchers say. That encouragement has paved a path to enrollment for many participants in the City University of New York鈥檚 Fatherhood Academy. The 16-week program, hosted at Hostos, LaGuardia and Kingsborough community colleges, helps unemployed and underemployed dads obtain their GED and head on to college.
